Anthropology Colloquium with Dr. Weronika Tomczyk, Dartmouth Research Associate and Postdoctoral Fellow: Ecology, Evolution, Environment and Society Program (EEES). Animals & Empires: Zooarchaeological Insights into Ancient Ecological Imperialism in the Peruvian AndesMultidisciplinary zooarchaeological analyses of ancient animal remains offer great potential to reveal how diverse species, both domesticated and wild, became entangled participants and essential tools of ancient ecological imperialism. Bringing animals into the study of ancient empires not only yields a more accurate understanding of these complex polities, but also provides critical frameworks for engaging with modern environmental challenges in Latin America, from wildlife conservation to the enduring consequences of extractive imperialism.
