Sohini Dhar, DDS, MPH, FICD, assumes chair role with ADEA special interest group
, has transitioned into the role of chair of the American Dental Education Association鈥檚 (ADEA) Special Interest Group on Internationally Educated Oral Health Professionals, continuing a progression of leadership that began with her election as secretary in 2024 and chair-elect in 2025.
Dhar is an assistant professor/clinical in the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry, assistant director of the Dental Public Health Residency Program, and a diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health. Through her involvement with ADEA, she has been actively engaged in advocating for the integration of globally trained dental professionals into the U.S. oral health workforce.
鈥淚nternationally educated oral health professionals bring extraordinary skill, resilience, and global perspective to our workforce. My commitment is to help build bridges that allow internationally trained professionals to contribute to U.S. oral health care system," shared Dhar.

Her efforts focus on advancing oral health education, supporting credential recognition, encouraging skill development and fostering professional growth among internationally educated oral health professionals. This work includes close collaboration with academic institutions, policymakers and community organizations to expand opportunities and strengthen the overall capacity of the dental profession.
The ADEA Special Interest Group on Internationally Educated Oral Health Professionals serves as a forum for dialogue around shared challenges and priorities, while representing, supporting and advocating on behalf of internationally educated colleagues. The group brings together administrators, faculty and staff involved in the formation, teaching and administration of international dental programs.
As chair, Dhar is positioned to further advance initiatives that expand access, strengthen professional pathways and support the integration of internationally educated oral health professionals nationwide.
