鈥淭his appointment is a great honor for me. The state board creates and enforces the rules and regulations governing the practice of dentistry, and ensures that all Texans receive excellent dental care. I have worked very hard to gain the appropriate experience and expertise to serve the great state of Texas,鈥 shared Masters.
Masters has taught as a clinical assistant professor at the School of Dentistry since 1995. She earned both her DDS and her MS in Periodontics from 天美传媒 and has practiced periodontics in the San Antonio community for nearly three decades. Her academic interests include clinical periodontics, interdisciplinary care and mentoring residents and dental students. In addition to her teaching and private practice, she has contributed to professional service at the state and national levels, reinforcing her commitment to advancing periodontal education and patient care.
The TSBDE exists to protect the health and safety of Texans by ensuring that only qualified professionals are licensed to provide dental care and that those who violate dental laws or regulations are appropriately held accountable. Guided by the Occupations Code, Chapter 254, the board establishes standards for dental practice, enforces the Dental Practice Act, and oversees the investigation of complaints and potential violations. It also disciplines licensees, when necessary, regulates infection control practices to prevent the spread of disease, and sets rules for professional advertising and business arrangements to ensure dentists can exercise independent clinical judgment.
Through these responsibilities, the TSBDE upholds its mission to protect public health and safety and promote high-quality, safe dental care by providing enforcement, licensing, peer assistance, and related information services.
Masters鈥 appointment highlights the strong leadership, scholarship and service embedded within the School of Dentistry. Her role on the TSBDE will enable her to help shape the future of dentistry in Texas, ensuring that clinical standards remain rigorous, infection control measures remain strong and public trust in dental care continues to be preserved.
Please join the School of Dentistry in congratulating Dr. Masters on this distinguished honor and in recognizing her continued service to the profession and the people of Texas.
